GDA Ch Field Haviland Limoges Cream Soup Bouillon Pink Roses Leaves 1937-41 Gold Elegant Decorative 2 Handled BOUILLON CREAM SOUP w/SAUCER from GDA (Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot), Charles Field Haviland Limoges, France, PINK ROSES w/Green Leaves, GOLD Trim on SMOOTH Rim, Circa 1937-1941 DESCRIPTION: This beautiful 2 handled cream soup & saucer set has the elegant pink roses w/bold gold band on the smooth rims. Next to the rims on both the inside & outside of the cup and on the saucer is a bright green garland of laurel leaves. The roses sprinkled across the cup & saucer have grey ghost flowers to give depth to the pattern. This is such an elegant, impressive set. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There appears to be no gold wear. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS: The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/2″ and a height of 5/8″. The cup has a diameter of 3 1/2″ while it it 5 1/8″ handle to handle. The height is 2 1/8″ with a capacity of 6 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland is the nephew of David Haviland, who started his company in 1853 in Limoges, France to manufacture china for the American market. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. When he retired, the name was bought and has passed down through several firms until the present day. In Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, the GDA mark (#1) on this set is described as a green underglaze mark (Haviland manufacturer’s mark) that was used from 1900-1941. GDA stands for Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot. There is also the red overglaze decorator’s mark #4 used 1937-1976. Also, the Wright Tyndale & Van Roden Philadelphia mark in red for retailer used from 1884 to at least 1969. This limits production to 1937-1941.
